INTERMEDIATE DOSES

With only 50, 100 and 200 mcg tablets of thyroxine available in Australia it is difficult obtaining intermediate doses. Here are some tips.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED

We are very under-staffed at our office in Mount Waverley (Victoria), and as such are now offering free membership to those who volunteer at the office one day per fortnight (or equivalent).

There are both computer and non-computer tasks available; ranging from answering the phone, to database entry, to filing to more complex tasks.

We urgently need more help, so please download more information in PDF format here and contact us here if you think you can help us.

REFRIGERATION OF THYROXINE

Leading endocrinologist Dr Jim Stockigt has questioned the efficy of the new requirement to refrigerate thyroxine in a letter to the Medical Journal of Autralia. He is recommending that opened bottles should not be kept in the fridge, but rather kept in a cool dry place.

Jim's letter and a reply from Sigma Pharmaceuticals here or download here.

Storage requirements were changed in July 2004. The two Australian brands, Oroxine and Eutroxsig, now have a shelf life of 18 months (up from 12 months), but must be refrigerated.

The formulations are unchanged.

The tablets can be kept unrefrigerated for up to a month without affecting the shelf life.

The February 2005 Thyroid Flyer features a notice about a Seminar Pack containing speaker notes and transcripts of presentations from the 2004 Annual Information Seminar. The presentations at this seminar were:

  • Autoimmunity as related to Graves', Hashimoto's and Thyroid Eye Disease.
  • The management and treatment of thyroid illnesses.
  • Insulin resistance.
  • Weight management issues related to people with slow metabolism and Type 2 Diabetes.

The 2004 Seminar Pack is priced at $15.00 (including postage).

Unfortunately, this pack is not yet available as we are finalising the transcripts. However, we are accepting pre-orders. We anticipate it will be available in mid-April. Apologies for the delay.
